Case Study – Stoffels Tomaten

Improving Root Health and Crop Resilience with Agrona Nanobubble Technology

Stoffels Tomaten faced recurring root and virus problems, combined with low oxygen levels in the irrigation water due to high temperature water disinfection. To address these challenges, the grower invested in two Agrona Nanobubble Generators in 2023. Within months, dissolved oxygen levels increased significantly from 4.8 ppm to 22-23 ppm, resulting in stronger root development and overall crop health. Combined with improved water heating and adjusted hydrogen peroxide dosing, the grower achieved cleaner irrigation water, more resilient plants, and optimized substrate conditions. The Nanobubble systems proved to be a structural and effective solution for long-term crop stability.

Stoffels Tomaten is a professional tomato grower operating 10 hectares in Rijkevorsel, Belgium, producing various resistant varieties in greenhouse conditions on coconut substrate. In recent years, the company experienced root problems, virus infections, and inconsistent yields, complicated by water disinfection practices.

In August 2023, Stoffels Tomaten installed two Agrona Nanobubble Generators to enrich irrigation water with dissolved oxygen. The system was connected directly to the silos and integrated seamlessly into the existing irrigation setup.
