Pepper grower invests in water quality: “You want to build a microbiological balance”
Tholen – About six years ago, pepper grower Arthur Mooijman decided to invest in an Oxybull aeration system due to algae problems in his water silo. Since 2021, he has also had a greenhouse in Berkel en Rodenrijs, where he has continued to invest in water quality. Since March of this year, an Oxybull system from Agrona has also been in operation there. In addition, the grower uses an ABR bioreactor.
When asked why he initially chose an Oxybull system, Arthur repeats the question while enjoying a cup of coffee in the canteen at the end of April. “Well, it happened because I heard the word ‘plate aeration’ somewhere—I don’t remember exactly where. So I started searching online and came across Nadir from Agrona.” Nadir refers to Nadir Laaguili, who supplies water treatment systems.
The story of Agrona appealed to the grower. “A clear video demonstrating how it works helped as well. At the time, there weren’t as many aeration systems on the market as there are now.” Arthur had already been growing peppers in his greenhouse in Nootdorp for about ten years when he decided to invest in improving the water in his silo. “I already had a floating cover on the silo, but it was getting dirty.”
